Warmoth have been making bodies and necks for over 25 years and claim to be the original custom guitar shop.
All of their necks and bodies are made in USA and the choice of woods is phenomenal.
All necks and bodies are avaiable unfinished for people who may want a custom job done in, say, Nitrocellulose laquer instead of the usual poly finish. There are also quite a few woods offered that require no finish such as ebony and wenge.
4 string Bass bodies are available in 14 different styles including the most popular offerings from Fender and Gibson but they also make their own styles alongside these. They also offer several 5 string models, a 6 string and even a Strat style doubleneck.
Most bodies are available as front or rear routed for those who don't want a scratchplate spoiling the visual impact of their chosen piece of wood or simply for a cleaner look.
Jacks are also able to be specified front or side mounted.
They also offer a hollow Jazz body for people who want a lighter bass. This can be useful for those who specify a heavier, denser wood but don't want to have to suffer the weight.
There are 10 main body woods available which are:
There are also other woods available depending on what they have available at the time
There are 23 different laminates available for those who want a particular tone wood for the bulk of the body but want something visually appealing for the top or to suit a certain finish.
Warmoth have recently begun offering the customer the chance to pick the exact laminate top used on their bass. Since wood can vary wildly sometimes, this option will appeal to those who want a particluar look to their finished bass.
Also relatively new is the 'drop top'. This is done by forming the laminate top over the contours of the body instead of simply being a rigid piece of wood that stops when a contour is reached.
Warmoth offer 8 different types of finish for those who want their body to be delivered ready for assembly
15 colours are offered which are made up primarily of original Fender colours albeit done with polyurethane paint rather than the original nitrocellulose.
12 semi see through colours are available. These finishes allow the grain of the wood to be seen through the finish.
Similar to translucent finished except that they are hand rubbed onto the finish and yield a more 3D effect. This finish is only available on Figured maple.
Generally 2 or more colours which usually begin brightest in the centre of the body and get darker towards the edge
Exactly what it says on the tin. Options are satin or gloss depending on whether or not you like your body shiny or not.
Similar to solid colours in that they are made up mainly of old Fender colours and sparkly.
Exactly
Like metallic but with big sparkly flakes covering the entire body. This finish reacts well to stage lighting and is arguably the most visually striking
