Speaker cables

Amplifiers output high power signals to speakers therefore the cables that connect the amplifier to the speakers must be capable of handling this power.

NEVER use guitar leads to connect between an amplifier and speaker.

Speaker cables are designed differently to guitar leads and can safely handle the power that will pass through them, although in very high power applications it may be necessary to specify heavier than normal speaker cables.

The connectors used for speakers may be standard 1/4-inch mono jack plugs or Speakon connectors. Speakon connectors can handle more power and also have a locking facility to prevent accidental removal.

Jack plugs used for speaker connectors should be heavy-duty types, often with a thicker body than usual.
